Mission

Artists Showing Artists is an opportunity for established artists to share the spotlight with other artists who may be emerging, new to the area, or who they want to highlight. The project encourages collaboration within and between disciplines and enlightens the community about both the featured artists and the art curation process.

Purpose of Artists Showing Artists

  1. Showcase lesser known, new, and or underserved artists in the Midlands.

  2. Build community across artistic disciplines and encourage established artists to celebrate and highlight their peers.

  3. Enlighten the community about the art curation process.

  4. Empower artists to work together.

Guidelines & Requirements for the Artist-Curator

  • The Artist-curator will select between 2-3 performing artists and 2-4 visual artists who have work to sell. They are encouraged to select artists from multiple disciplines, and may show their own work and/or perform as well.

  • Artists/performers selected by the artist-curator should live and work in or near the Midlands; they can be new to the arts scene or someone returning to it after a hiatus or relocation, in other words, someone the artist-curator believes should be highlighted/recognized.

  • The Jasper team must see and approve the lineup before the artist-curator reaches out to each artist/performer. They should provide the Jasper team with the names and contact information for each artist and performer they select. It is also a good idea for them to have backup options if one of their selections is unavailable to perform.

  • The Jasper team will work with the selected artists to get their photos and bios, but the artist-curator should provide their reasoning for selecting them. We will coordinate this with them—it can be either in written form for an article or a video.

  • The Jasper team with arrange the date, venue, and provide sound equipment for performers when required. We will need a list of gear/sound requirements in advance of the performance which we will do our best to procure.

  • Artist-curator will receive $250 to pay all performers, and they are responsible for doing so. If they are performing, they may also choose to pay themselves/their band.

  • Jasper will assist in set up for visual artists and handle all sales of their work; Jasper takes 25% of all art sales and pays each artist via check within 30 days post-show.

  • Visual artists will be provided with a single folding table, chair, and table cover. They are welcome to bring more tables, display walls, tents (for outdoor events), but space may be limited. Jasper will coordinate with invited visual artists about space limitations before the event.

  • Artist-curator and all performers must be at the venue at least 30 minutes before doors, but an hour is recommended. Visual artists will need to be there an hour before doors to set up.

  • Performers are welcome and encouraged to sell their merch at the event.

  • Each performer/artist will get a +1 for the event. Waters will be provided but we encourage performers to BYOB.
