Artist’s Statement
My work as a painter takes me to the figure as it moves in space. The gesture is important to me and taking out the detail and trying to capture the spirit of the movement in the smallest lines are what I try to achieve as I draw and feel what the pose is about. I want to include the viewer in my work. I want each person looking at my lines to think about where they come from and what they are trying to say. When posing or photographing the women that I love to paint, I try to find each personal gesture that belongs to that particular woman and then translate that into the essence of who she is in that moment in time. When I paint in the total abstract/non-objective manner, I eliminate the figure and paint the spirit of the moment… The beauty of all women, both interior and exterior, and the gesture of the spirit is what is important to me in my work.
Jasper receives nothing from the buying and selling of exhibited art other than a warm feeling in our collective hearts. If you are a professional visual artist interested in exhibiting your work, please contact us at editor@JasperColumbia.com.
